About Stacy Sakai
Stacy Sakai is a Canadian artist, based in Vancouver, BC. She spent her childhood in South America, Florida and northern British Columbia. From an early age, her interest in art was influenced by the teachings of her father and grandmother, both also artists.

Over the past twenty years, Sakai’s involvement in the art industry has covered a diverse range of work. Her experience includes writing, work in film, curating, as well as event planning and production for art shows and live performance from here in Vancouver to New York City.

Sakai enjoys painting with freedom to create abstracts that emphasize colour. Her recent work combines her interest in astronomy and cosmology with her unique painting style. Studying the images from the Hubble Space Telescope inspired her to capture the colourful impressions of galaxies and nebulae in her paintings. In this way, she creates work that is abstract, yet specific.

Sakai’s art is a rich fusion of her intellectual interests and her expressive creativity.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artists Raymond Chow and Stacy Sakai debut their unique TREADZ Tire Art paintings at the Luxury & Supercar Weekend, September 8-9, 2012 at VanDusen Botanical Garden!

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (Saturday, August 11, 2012) – Raymond Chow and Stacy Sakai combine their artistic talents to create a unique series of paintings using tires to impress tread marks onto the canvas! To create these abstract expressionist works of art, tires of various types and brands are covered in paint, and then rolled across a prepared canvas. This leaves a beautiful impression of the tire, the energy of the application, and the artist’s choice of colour, direction and pressure.

Pictures, Press Stacy Sakai meets Ray Villard, News Director for the Hubble!

On Friday, April 23, 2010, I was honoured to be included at a dinner for Ray Villard, News Director for the Space Telescope Science Institute (Hubble). There were about fifteen people at the dinner, mostly from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Listening to the conversation about astronomy, and the Hubble Space Telescope was fantastic! I was privileged to discuss my art with Ray, and have my picture taken with him.

The following day was the Hubble’s 20th Anniversary, and Ray gave a talk at the Space Centre in Vancouver. Afterwards, I spoke with him again. We agreed to stay in touch, and I look forward to more conversations about the Hubble, astronomy, and art.
