PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Artists Raymond Chow and Stacy Sakai debut their unique TREADZ Tire Art paintings at the Luxury & Supercar Weekend, September 8-9, 2012 at VanDusen Botanical Garden!

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (Saturday, August 11, 2012) – Raymond Chow and Stacy Sakai combine their artistic talents to create a unique series of paintings using tires to impress tread marks onto the canvas! To create these abstract expressionist works of art, tires of various types and brands are covered in paint, and then rolled across a prepared canvas. This leaves a beautiful impression of the tire, the energy of the application, and the artist’s choice of colour, direction and pressure.

Events TREADZ Tire Art! A Chow & Sakai Collaboration

This ongoing series of abstract expressionist paintings by Raymond Chow and Stacy Sakai is created using tires to impress tread marks onto the canvas, leaving beautiful, multi-coloured patterns.

In painting, abstract expressionism is about capturing a moment, and the energy of the application of paint. The marks left on the canvas by a particular tool, whether it’s a brush, a hand, or a tire, are a permanent record of the tool, the energy, and the artist making the mark in that particular moment in time.

To create these works of art, tires are covered in paint, and then rolled across a prepared canvas along various tracks, leaving a beautiful pattern and impression of the particular tire, and the artist’s choice of colour, direction and pressure.

The TREADZ Tire Art series will debut at a spectacular upcoming event! Details will be announced in a few days.

So much has been happening, and so fast!

On July 4th, I had an artist reception for my “One And The Same” art show at the Quinary Art Projects Pop Up Gallery in Vancouver. I was thrilled to have so many people attend the event, and visit throughout the week! The gallery project involved 14 seven day events where invited artists are presenting weekly.

A selection of my paintings is now installed at the Inner Evolution Healing Centre, which had its grand opening on August 1st. It was a beautiful event! Inner Evolution has amazing energy, and I’m so honoured to be part of it.

I’m also working on a series in collaboration with another artist. We have some very exciting things in the works, and the details will be coming out soon!

It has been a busy summer so far, and so much fun too!!!

At the quantum level, everything in the Universe is essentially energy, and there are no hard boundaries.  The One And The Same series of oil paintings is about our connection to the Universe, and everything in it.

With this abstract expressionist series, I have created oil paintings based on images of galaxies and nebulae from the Hubble Space Telescope, combined with a human element.

My Interspace painting is part of my current series about our connection to the Universe, and everything in it.

Creating ‘Interspace’ on a stage was very exciting! The freedom of expression was amazing! I had a photographer capture the experience, and the photos have been made into a video. The video incorporates our collaboration of painting, photography, music, and video design. I feel so honoured to have such an incredible team of artists on this video of my painting performance!!!

Photography by Dave Dutton, music by Barry Ostash of STAVOC and Steven Kitchen of Dephorm/Hologram, and video production by STAVOC.

The video can be viewed here on YouTube.

Below are some photographs from the photoshoot. All photos are credit to Dave Dutton.

Today, I painted my largest painting yet, five feet high and twelve feet long. It’s an abstract expressionist painting, done performance style. I’ve been planning it for months! There were so many decisions to make, and so many details to work out…

In the midst of painting, I kept thinking, I just don’t want this to end! It was incredibly exhilarating putting so much passion and energy into a such a large painting!

Soon to come: a music video featuring my painting performance, and also a very short Flash animation!

It was a lot of fun attending the VIP Opening Gala for Vancouver Fashion Week! I also went back on Friday night, and again for the closing on Sunday. There was one fashion designer after another for hours each day – so many great designs! I was busy enjoying the show and having fun, but I did remember to take a few pictures. Here are a couple from the last night…
